Join artist, Natasha Ruschka, for a fun and creative two-day workshop to learn the secrets to painting loose and
colourful florals using oils! Natasha will demonstrate a repeatable painting process designed to enhance your painting practice and artistic development. This workshop caters to all levels, from beginners seeking a starting point to established artists aiming to loosen up their style.

Participants will learn essential colour theory, simplification through value, and expressive brushwork, focusing on alla prima painting techniques. Natasha will guide students through each stage, providing opportunities for quick exercises and the creation of individual finished pieces. Her teaching style fosters a relaxed and enjoyable learning environment.

Natasha is a colourful oil painter based in Canberra, who draws inspiration from light-filled scenes to capture atmospheric effects in her paintings of still life, flowers, and landscapes. Alongside her artistic pursuits, Natasha is passionate about teaching, helping students cultivate their creative expression and overcome the initial hurdles of starting a new artistic journey. Her work has earned her recognition as a regular finalist in state and national competitions, with pieces held in collections both nationally and internationally.

Additional Information

Please note this workshop is for adults only and is an in-depth two-day course. It is suitable for beginners or experienced painters. Participants should leave with a completed still life oil painting and the skills to build on their artistic practice.

Canvas/panels will be supplied. However, participants will need to bring their own painting supplies. Please use the list below as a guide. If you are a complete beginner this is the minimum, you will need to get good results.

  • Brushes: 1-2 each of small, medium, and large brushes.
  • Paints
    • Reds: Transparent Red Oxide (or another neutral like raw umber, burnt sienna), Cadmium Red and Quinacridone Violet
    • Yellows: Cadmium Yellow (or Cadmium Yellow Light) and Indian Yellow
    • Blues: Ultramarine Blue and Phthalo Blue
    • White: Titanium White MEDIUM
  • 1 x tube of Gamblin Solvent Free Gel or you can use a separate (small) container of solvent as a medium.
  • 1 x Palette
  • 1 x Metal Palette Knife (tear drop shaped)
  • Rags or Paper Towel
  • 1 x Apron or smock
  • An old pizza box is useful for transporting wet paintings home in the car
