Our volunteers are a valued and essential part of the team, playing a key role in bringing the festival to life. Your time and contribution help us create a memorable experience for the Canberra community, as well as visitors from across Australia and around the world.

Volunteer FAQs
Volunteers are the eyes and ears of Floriade.
As a volunteer, you will interact with attendees and are often the first point of contact, helping to create a welcoming and positive experience for all visitors.
You will be supported every step of the way by a dedicated Volunteer Coordinator and a broader team of Events ACT staff, ensuring you feel confident and equipped in your role.
We welcome people from all walks of life to volunteer at Floriade. Whether you are a student, working professional, retiree or visiting Canberra, there is a role for you.
Some positions do have age requirements, and a limited number of roles are only available to volunteers aged 16 years and over.
Most volunteer roles have a few simple requirements to help ensure a positive experience for both you and our visitors:
- Availability for a 4‑hour shift
- A friendly, approachable and confident attitude when engaging with a wide range of people
- Willingness to learn and share event information accurately
- A proactive and observant mindset, with a readiness to step in and help where needed
- Comfort working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions
- A current Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration
These qualities help us create a welcoming, safe and enjoyable experience for everyone at Floriade.
Applying to volunteer is easy.
Simply sign up through Better Impact, our online volunteer platform, where you can create a profile and tell us a little about yourself, including your interests and availability.
Volunteer shifts are now available; you can browse and select the roles and times that suit you on Better Impact.
No prior experience is required to volunteer at Floriade.
We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, and full guidance will be provided to help you feel confident in your role. When you apply, you will have the opportunity to share any skills or experience you bring, which helps us match you with suitable roles.
Absolutely. Volunteering is a great experience to share.
To be scheduled together, you and your friend can sign up for the same shifts at the same time through Better Impact. Most roles involve working as part of a team, so there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer side by side.
We offer a range of volunteer roles at Floriade and NightFest, each playing an important part in creating a great visitor experience.
- Welcome Team – Be the friendly face of the festival, greeting visitors at entry points and helping them get the most out of their visit.
- Roving Support – Move throughout the park assisting guests with directions and answering questions to help everything run smoothly.
- Children’s Activity Supervisor – Support family-friendly spaces by overseeing play areas, assisting with activities like crafts, and helping keep the space safe, tidy and well stocked.
- NightFest Ticketing Assistant – Join the front-line team at NightFest, scanning tickets and helping guests enter the event smoothly and efficiently.

You can choose the shifts that work best for your availability.
All shifts are available on a first come, first served basis through Better Impact, so we recommend signing up early to secure your preferred times.

Volunteering at Floriade is a great way to build valuable skills while being part of a major event. During your experience, you can develop:
- Communication and interpersonal skills – Build confidence engaging with a wide range of people in a clear, friendly and helpful way
- Customer service skills – Support visitors, answer questions and help create a positive and welcoming experience
- Problem-solving and adaptability – Respond to unexpected situations and adapt to a fast-paced environment
- Teamwork and collaboration – Work alongside other volunteers and staff to deliver a seamless event
- Event operations experience – Gain insight into how a large-scale public event is delivered, including crowd flow and guest support
