For Floriade About Town 2025, the National Dinosaur Museum proudly presents Blooms & Bones: Floriade About Town, where prehistoric wonders meet the beauty of spring. With a mix of creativity, colour, and dinosaurs, our program offers interactive fun for children, families, and visitors of all ages.
Children aged 4 to 12 can join Floral Echoes, a hands-on activity where they’ll create their own take-home treasures. Using a range of materials, visitors will be able to create their own unique “trace fossils,” echoing the way plants and animals were preserved millions of years ago! It’s the perfect blend of science, art, and imagination.
For a larger-than-life photo opportunity, come and meet Florasaurus. One of our Triceratops loves Floriade, and has decided to join in on the fun this year, getting all dolled up for the occasion! This eye-catching installation invites guests of all ages to capture some limited-edition selfies and unique family photos.
Young artists can also unleash their imaginations with our Roar & Draw Colouring Club. Featuring dinosaurs ready to be coloured in to help celebrate Floriade, the contest will be judged in three categories:
Ages under 6 years
Ages 7 to 10 years
Ages 11 to 13 years
Winners will be awarded in each category and will receive a voucher for free museum entry and a gift shop discount.
The National Dinosaur Museum is Australia’s largest permanent display of prehistoric specimens and one of the region’s most popular attractions. Established in 1993, the Museum is a vibrant hub for science education and family entertainment, offering visitors the chance to journey through 700 million years of Earth’s history.
The National Dinosaur Museum is home to more than 150 dinosaur models, 23 complete dinosaur skeletons, over 300 individual displays, and an extraordinary collection of fossils and artefacts. Each gallery takes visitors through a chapter in the fascinating story of life’s evolution, from the earliest creatures to the rise and fall of the dinosaurs, and even the emergence of modern humans. Interactive exhibits, touchable fossils, and hands-on learning experiences make the museum particularly engaging for children.
Outside, the Dinosaur Garden features towering dinosaur replicas set against native plants and walking paths, creating an unforgettable setting for exploration and photos.
The National Dinosaur Museum also features one of Canberra’s greatest specialist retail stores, offering everything from genuine fossils and sparkling crystals to educational toys and unique dinosaur-themed souvenirs. It is a mini museum in its own right!
With its mix of science, imagination, and fun, the National Dinosaur Museum inspires curiosity about the natural world and brings prehistoric life vividly into the present. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a returning dinosaur enthusiast, the Museum offers something new to discover with every visit.
