As a Floriade About Town activation, Haig Park Village Markets is so excited to announce its newest event, the Spring Sustainability Market, taking place on Sunday 28 September.
This special edition of the much loved markets will be bursting with workshops, activities, and stalls focused on conservation, waste reduction, sustainable living and more. From organic produce to slow fashion, recycling workshops and meeting native animals, it will be a celebration of all things sustainability.
Marketgoers can expect a vibrant program of activities designed to inspire positive change and showcase the work of local environmental organisations. From kids’ endangered species mask making and nature storytelling to seed planting and propagation, there’ll be something for all ages to enjoy and learn from.
This event will also highlight the diverse community of sustainability-minded stallholders who are the heart of Haig Park Village Markets. Visitors can meet their organic growers, discover beautifully made low-waste lifestyle products, explore sustainable fashion, and connect with not-for-profits doing incredible work.
Canberra Snake Rescue, a local small business run by herpetologist and ecologist Emma Carlson, will bring an interactive native reptile display where you can get up close and learn about our local reptile fauna, and be empowered with knowledge to appreciate even our “scary” snakes – say hi to their Bearded Dragon Autumn, or pat a friendly python. You can ask all your burning questions about reptiles, learn a few tips and tricks to make your backyard less inviting for snakes to stick around, and find out how you can make your garden more lizard friendly and increase local biodiversity.
The Spring Sustainability Market will also feature inspiring local organisations such as Lids4Kids, raising awareness about plastic recycling and circular economy efforts while helping to turn waste into mobility aids for children in need.
In addition to the Spring Sustainability Market, Haig Park Village Markets will be open every Sunday from 8am – 2pm during Floriade. Explore a variety of Spring themed stalls, ranging from fresh and dried blooms to floral themed candles, jewellery, foraged teas and so much more!
