Pet Behaviour & Training

Our furry friends have become used to having us around a lot more. Heading back to work after so long with dogs at home can also be traumatic for our four-legged friends, whether young or old. Understanding their separation anxiety and supporting them in re-establishing daily routines and habits are all important as we establish our new normal, striking the balance in and out of the home.

Beyond the nutritional and safety considerations of your pet, training and behaviour are key tools for ensuring pets and humans alike are happy and comfortable in their shared environments.

Jessica Winsall, a veterinarian with a special interest in behaviour, will take you through some basic training, coping strategies and advice to ensure your pet is performing and feeling their best, whether you’re home or not.

Jessica graduated from Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga in 2017 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Bachelor of Veterinary Biology and moved to Canberra to start work at Brudine Veterinary Hospital soon after. She grew up in South-West Victoria in Hamilton where she spent her entire childhood and teenage years competing on her horses. Surrounded by a menagerie of animals from a very young age started her love for animals and passion for veterinary science.

While finishing high school and throughout her veterinary degree, Jessica worked as a veterinary nurse in Hamilton during holidays which not only further increased her love for veterinary science but gave her invaluable skills that she could bring into her career as a veterinarian.

She has a beautiful Australian Shepherd Narla and a silver dapple miniature Dachshund Rupert, who both enjoy brunching at cafes, dog parks and market trips. She has also rescued a sweet orphaned kitten, Wesley who is a very fun and playful cat.

Jessica has a keen interest in behaviour medicine and has done specific courses throughout the last two years to improve her behaviour skills as well as earn her certification as a Fear Free Veterinarian.
