Floriade Community Grants Program

The Floriade Community Grants Program is designed to help bring the spirit of Floriade to life in local neighbourhoods across Canberra. The program was introduced to support and encourage Floriade Community participants to create their own unique pop-up events to showcase their beautiful garden beds and plantings, bringing the magic of Floriade to the whole city!

Location: Croke Place, Evatt ACT 2617

Event: Floriade Open Day will showcase vibrant displays of tulips and annuals planted in three distinct areas, reflecting the collaborative efforts of the Lions Club and local volunteers. The event will highlight involvement from the local school and various clubs and organisations through activities such as weeding, planting, and educational talks on topics like frogs, water life, and Aboriginal foods, fostering a sense of shared ownership and appreciation for the natural environment.

Event: The Page Facility Open Day invites ACT veterans, their families, and the local community to explore the facility and its vibrant Floriade plantings. The event will feature demonstrations in the wood and metal workshops and offer guidance on Department of Veterans’ Affairs compensation and well-being support. Attendees can enjoy the outdoor kitchen and BBQ area, with free activities such as a jumping castle, face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon folding, and outdoor games for all ages. A free sausage sizzle and drinks will be provided.

Event: The Floriade Pride @ Meridian is a free morning tea that features local caterers and entertainment and celebrates pride, diversity, and community, connecting members, partners, and neighbours from Havelock.

Location: Narrabundah College

Event: “Bundah Bulbs – Floriade Pop Up” is an event hosted by Narrabundah College to celebrate the school’s vibrant, diverse, and inclusive community. It aims to foster social cohesion by bringing together students, parents, alumni, local First Nations youth, residents, and business partners for an enjoyable afternoon filled with live student music and creative art activities, such as chalk drawing and painting. The event will also promote environmental awareness with a bush regeneration display, an inclusive community quiz, and plant sales.

Event: Yarralumla’s Floriade Fiesta is a free event which includes morning tea, live music, kids’ activities like face painting and gardening giveaways, and botanical-themed art and craft sessions led by local artists.

Location: Fadden Primary School

Event: The Floriade @ Fadden Spring Fair is a community celebration held at Fadden Primary School to showcase their vibrant rainbow-shaped Floriade Community display. The event features market stalls, entertainment, a BBQ with various food options, face painting, and a balloon animal adoption stall. Attendees can also enjoy a Plant, Produce, and Preserves stall, a craft station, and a student art show. The fair aims to bring the community together to celebrate the success of their collaborative gardening project and foster community pride and connectedness.

Event: The Gungahlin Mosque Community BBQ is a community event set in front of the mosque’s vibrant tulip garden. It aims to bring together the multicultural community for a day of celebration and connection, with a barbecue and Floriade-inspired activities.

Location: “Friendship Hill” Campbell Primary School

Event: The Community Morning Tea celebrates the diverse elements of their local community, which includes migrant families, Defence families, and local residents. The event will be held at Friendship Hill, featuring the school’s Floriade display, live music from the school orchestra and the Royal Military College Duntroon Band, and local produce from businesses and farming families.

Event: The Brierly St Block Party features live music, performances, and a variety of activities such as markets, games, and food stalls, creating an engaging atmosphere for all ages. It supports local businesses by providing a platform for vendors to showcase their products, while also offering fundraising opportunities for community groups.

Event: The Floriade Community Party at Club Kalina will showcase an inclusive community garden built with support from Dementia Australia to promote inclusivity for people with young onset dementia and other disabilities. The garden has transformed a previously neglected area into a vibrant, engaging space featuring fairy-themed decorations, a street library, hopscotch, and a drop-off point for the Lids4Kids recycling program. The event will feature a free BBQ, live music, face painting, and family-friendly activities, aiming to de-stigmatize dementia and demonstrate the positive contributions of people with disabilities.

Location: Tharwa Preschool

Event: The Tharwa Preschool P&C is seeking support to host a community event celebrating the success of our Floriade-inspired gardening project. This event will honor the hard work and collaboration of preschool parents and local residents from Tharwa and beyond, who came together to plan and plant the beautiful bulbs and annuals provided through the Floriade in the Community Program.

The celebration will feature a BBQ and fun activities designed to bring our community together and celebrate our shared achievement for this historic rural preschool.

Event: Enjoy a variety of fun activities such as the Community Garden Festival, Floriade Community Picnic and BBQ Day, face painting and photo booths, an Indoor Movie Afternoon, the Educational Workshop Series on Floral Art, and balloon modelling.

Location: Corner Butters Drive and Ainsworth Street, Swinger Hill

Event: The “Spring Fling in Swinger Hill” event builds on the success of previous community gatherings by hosting a neighbourhood get-together around the Floriade garden bed. The event will feature live music by a local acoustic performer, food supplied by nearby restaurants, and a potential swap table for community exchange. Attendees are encouraged to bring drinks, snacks, and decorations to add to the festive atmosphere.

Location: Curtin Square, Central Courtyard of the Curtin Group Centre

Event: The Curtin Spring Fair is a vibrant community event celebrating plants, gardens, and urban green spaces. Enjoy a variety of activities, including sales and fundraising stalls from local community groups, hobbyists, and small businesses focused on environmental themes. The fair will feature information stalls promoting tree planting initiatives and native gardens in Curtin’s parks. There will also be free children’s activities led by early learning educators and musical entertainment.
