Everlasting Wildflowers for the Home
Join Narelle Phillips, Floristry teacher at the Canberra Institute of Technology to create a unique and long-lasting arrangement for the home.
Celebrating Spring with an Australian wildflower flavour, we will create a design to showcase the spectacular range of flowers and plant materials currently in season.
Wildflowers and native plant materials can be sourced locally, are often hardy and long-lasting, and many are suitable to dry at home. Complement these with a range of dried and preserved materials that are readily available, and you can create your own bespoke arrangement to suit your home.
The current trend towards full, sculptural designs and unusual materials lends itself perfectly to this arrangement.
In this workshop, we will learn what tools and materials to use, how to select a suitable container, how to secure and stabilise the arrangement as well as some cheeky tricks of the trade!
Narelle Phillips
Narelle is a trained florist and teaches Floristry at the Canberra Institute of Technology, Bruce.
She has a background in visual arts and collections management and has exhibited in, curated or produced exhibitions in several Canberra galleries, including M16 Artspace, ANCA, Tuggeranong Arts Centre, Canberra Glassworks and East Space.
Alongside her current occupation in training and education, Narelle operates Brave Botanics specialising in bespoke wedding flowers, sculptural botanical installations and workshops. Designs are created within a sustainable practice, using locally sourced and grown flowers foraged plant materials, and creating without floral foam or excessive waste.
With over 20 years’ floral design experience in Sydney, the Blue Mountains and Canberra, Narelle moves towards installation-based work, in inspiring locations.
Led by the ever-changing palette of seasonal blooms and unique plant materials, there is endless scope for play with colour, shape, form and texture.
